In life we fear the unknown. This applies to this hike on a few levels, but we’ll let Redline Guide Rhonda Willette expose some of them for you. The short story here is that this new guest came to us having always wanted to hike Mt Washington but the unknown kept getting in the way of this trial. Until now. With a guide to lend support — in more ways than one — she was able to push past her trepidation and was able to summit the mountain. And a few other things might have also been summited along the way. Other fears remain, there are more trials ahead, but today our guest can claim her prize. The team hiked up Ammo, took Crawford Path to the top, then the grabbed the train on the way down to cap an awesome, incredible day. What follows is Rhonda’s summary, a testimonial from our guest, and a few photos of this special day.
Today I had the privilege of guiding our guest to the summit of Mount Washington. This is a dream she’s carried for years. This climb meant far more to her than just a mountain; it was a step toward reclaiming strength during an incredibly heavy chapter in her life. We ascended via the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail, enjoying beautiful views along the way. The steep staircases and open ledges were challenging, and she was doubting herself, but she didn’t let on. She kept moving with steady determination, and I never doubted her ability to reach her goal. From Lakes of the Clouds Hut to the summit, we were in the clouds. Visibility was low, but the winds were calm and the temperatures were comfortable for our final summit push. She was full of emotion when she reached the summit, knowing she had truly done it. I am beyond grateful to have been the one walking with her today as she accomplished this long‑time dream. —Rhonda
I had the privilege of having Rhonda from Redline as my guide today for my very first summit, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the very beginning, she was patient, kind, encouraging, and genuinely empathetic. I shared my goals with her, and she took the time to help me achieve something I never thought was possible. Today, I made it to the summit. We took the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail, and it was definitely not easy. There were moments when I questioned whether I could do it, but Rhonda never stopped believing in me. Her experience, confidence, and encouragement kept me moving forward every step of the way. Reaching the top was one of the most rewarding moments I’ve ever experienced, and I truly owe a huge thank you to Rhonda. She is courageous, knowledgeable, compassionate, and an exceptional guide.
