A returning guest reached out hoping to grab the final two trails required by the rules of the Terrifying 25 list. The final two trails were, specifically, Great Gully and Castle. Leading was Redline Guide Debra McCown and her words and photos follow.
He wanted to sneak in his last two Terrifying 25 trails before the season turned to winter, and he got them in just under the wire, wearing spikes as we navigated just enough ice and snow to make it an ‘extra terrifying’ finale to this popular hiking list, which includes some of the toughest trails in the White Mountains.
In two previous hikes with me, he’d completed Six Husbands Trail, Sphinx, and Huntington Ravine. On this one we went up Great Gully and down Castle Trail — the final two he needed to complete the list. Congratulations on getting it done! —Debra
