A returning guest who recently ventured with us came back again, this time for a half-day hike to the summit ledges on Middle Sugarloaf. For those who don’t know, Middle Sugarloaf is a member of the 52 With A View family (not to be confused with other 52WAV listee: Mt Sugarloaf). Leading the charge, like last time, was Redline Guide Rhonda Willette. Her words and photos follow…
A fun morning hiking Middle Sugarloaf. We had the trails almost entirely to ourselves. Along the way, several impressive glacial erratics lined the trail, providing a reminder of the powerful forces that shaped the landscape. Near the summit, a few red squirrels kept us entertained as they raced through the woods and loudly announced our presence. They were fun to watch and seemed determined to let us know we were intruding on their territory. We were able to enjoy the summit before the rain arrived. The changing weather provided a good opportunity to adjust gear and experience evolving trail conditions on the descent. —Rhonda
