Long Washington

A returning senior had been working with us for a while as he chipped away at his 4000-footers list. This trip up Mt Washington was going to be his final mountain on that list and summit it for a grand finish he did. Up Jewell Trail they went, heading down along the Cog tracks. In the Cog parking lot our guest’s family had gathered, ready with high praise for this awesome accomplishment adding Champagne to brighten the occasion further. Leading this incredible hike on this amazing Fall day was Redline Guide Rhonda Willette. Her words and photos follow.

We had a spectacular day hiking Mount Washington for this NH48 finish. The weather could not have been any better, and our guest thoroughly enjoyed the trail choices for the day. On the summit, we found a warm spot out of the wind to enjoy lunch while taking in the incredible views. We also had fun waving to the passengers aboard the Cog Railway trains as they made their way up the mountain.

I feel fortunate to have been part of this special and celebratory hike. Reaching the summit of Mount Washington to complete the New Hampshire 48 is a remarkable accomplishment, and it was a privilege to share the experience. —Rhonda
