As the humidity increases the human body’s sweat fails to efficiently cool us — evaporative cooling stagnates in water-saturated air. Even in fairly moderate temperatures. The water has no where to go. This is one of the human body’s weaknesses. And it’s dangerous. Yet, we still get out there, pushing our limits, hoping for cooler temps, lower humidity, and stronger breezes (even if they don’t have much of an effect).
“Out there” was where our most recent guest was, doing a little Rock Climbing at Cathedral Ledge in North Conway with Redline Guide Will Murphy. This climber was experienced so multipitch trad was on the menu. Will decided to take her on Thin Air, a 360′ five pitch 5.6 rated climb. Despite the name, the air was thick and hot and our team sweated, but being careful to monitor themselves, a good time was had by all.
