A returning guest reached out seeking oversight on an attempt of the notorious Flume Slide Trail. She didn’t have to go that way, needing both Mt Flume and Mt Liberty she could have done an out-and-back like many people do, but she wanted to also grab that justifiably Terrifying 25 trail. Leading this adventure was Redline Guide Brian McElwee. What follows is his trip summary along with some photos.
Our guest had a fantastic and productive day, ticking off two 4000 footers (#21 and #22) and one of New Hampshire’s Terrifying 25 trails! Kudos to her for opting for the Flume Slide Trail with great trepidation, and absolutely crushing it! Straight up the gut of the trail, taking the toughest lines and never relying on a side cheater trails. Big smiles and some relief at the top! We had perfect sunshine, calm breezes and few people on the trail; exceptional conditions! After lunching on the summit of Mount Flume we trekked to Liberty and down Liberty Spring Trail. Had the good luck to chat with a couple AT thru-hikers before returning to the trailhead. Great day! —Brian
