We had a father-son team from the Netherlands reach out as suggested by ChatGPT. They were hoping to do a hike while they were visiting the area. A small mishap in Washington, DC, involving the father’s knee, however, had him wondering if he’d be able and ready or if he would have to change his plans. Luckily he was mending well and they were able to go through with the hike plans, though we did preemptively scale down the objective to make things easier. Instead of some 4000-footer, the plan changed to head in on the gorgeous Zealand Trail going as far as Thoreau Falls off of Ethan Pond Trail. As was, since the pair were doing well, the in-the-field decision by Redline Guide Bethany Bourget opted for a hike up to Zeacliff. All in all the day progressed nicely, our guests seeing some wonderful sights on a perfect day. Following are a few photos and a short summary of this private adventure.
It was a beauty of a day spending some in Zealand country. Our out-of-country visiting guests were enthusiastic, curious, and thoroughly enjoyed their time here in the woods while on holiday from the Netherlands. Zealand Hut was a great stop along the way and Zeacliff never disappoints withits expansive, one-of-a-kind views. We couldn’t have picked a better day or better weather. —Bethany
