A returning guest working on her New Hampshire 4000-footers list requested the company of her go-to guide Redline Guide Mike Maciel. On this extended day they took on the Z-Bonds Traverse. We’ll let Mike M. tell it, his words and photos follow.
Our longtime guest achieved a big milestone this week having finally stood on the summit of all New Hampshire’s famed 4000 footers. There is, however, just one minor detail here standing in her way. A few years ago during a Presidential Traverse her group bailed off the summit of Washington, hitching a ride down the auto road during bad weather. At that point, per the rules of the game, her summits of Madison, Adams, and Jefferson no longer met the requirements of the 4000 footer club because she did not ascend and descend by foot and/or ski.
Our guest is a purist, and wants to earn her spot the right way. So, she currently stands at 48 summits*, with an asterisk that we promise to remove once we re-do JAM later this year.
Finale or not, Z-Bonds lived up to its reputation as one of the classics. —Mike M
