Some hikes are tougher on some days and easier on others. It’s the nature of the beast. And when Gridding — hiking all those 4000-footers each month of the year — one gets to see them all complete with varying stages and varying outcomes. The objectives on this particular hike — Zealand, West Bond, and Bond — did not come easy this time. But the team did succeed. What follows is a summary and a few photos from Redline Guide Chase Hall featuring the second hike this in two days from our oft-returning Gridder.
Grid Life sometimes asks for big long days. Mounts Zealand, Bond, and West Bond were on the list for April and reminded us that sometimes you need to dig deep because these summits are so remote. Additionally you need to maintain a positive outlook when attempting these mountains because you put in serious miles to grab them. Inasmuch I couldn’t ask for a more positive guest who dug deep and never stopped. My guest is working his tail off to finish his grid before he turns 70. Once in awhile you witness an overdrive gear in people that will make you smile. Like when a demanding 22+ mile day never stopped my guest from grabbing his peaks. —Chase
