Being an east coast company, one might guess seeing a lot of business from the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) crowd is rather unlikely. But that’d be incorrect… much to our surprise and delight. The reality is that a lot of people headed over there to hike the PCT are temporarily leaving this coast to do so. To them, at least during the prep phase, we’re local. So what do they request? Two of our classes are asked for the most. First and foremost would be our River Crossing Skills course as the spring crossings over there can be wicked, as we’d say over here. Right behind it would be our Mountaineering Skills course covering crampon and ice axe usage for those expecting to get into some steep late season snow at higher elevations. Wilderness Navigation can also be handy. We’d add Camp Craft to that, but usually by the time a person decides the thru hike the PCT, their backpacking skills should be up to speed.
