Returning 18 Years Later

Life can get in the way of our more youthful desires and pursuits. Work, family, responsibilities, general adulting, time. These things can conspire against us, sometimes forcing us to shelve our wants in favor of our needs. Sometimes we realize these things later in life, blurring the line between said wants and needs. Hopefully before it’s too late to act on both. The most adaptable among us realize these things early on, and we act. We take time off (maybe call in sick, cough-cough), book time with that guide company, wax our skis, and head for the hills (Tuckerman Ravine). There we revisit old haunts or see them for the first time. There we muster up our courage, step into our bindings, point our skis downhill, and we send it. This is one such story. As Redline Guide Will Murphy reported:

It was 18 years ago when our guest was first in Tuckerman Ravine as a teenager. A mix of emotion and courage brought him to the top of Right Gully (Left Gully featured a conga line) for his first ski descent. The visibility went from excellent to poor during the transition (from climbing to skiing) but the spring snow was good and the ski down was continuous to the floor of the ravine. —Will

Great job, Will, and to our guest, we’re glad you got to revisit this special place. Good on you, sir!
