If you’re a New Hampshire hiker and familiar with the 48 it’s more than likely you’ll get more from the title of this post than those who don’t hike here. To those folks the title may seem a little dark or shadowy, or even troubling, or sad. To us, however, the Isolation part of the title is referring to the shorter (4004′) but still amazing high point situated on the Montalban Ridge just south of Mt Washington. The “Final” portion of the title must then mean it’s the last time someone “needs” Mt Isolation.
In this particular case, our oft-returning guest finally “Gridded” this peak, hiking it at least 12 times. Since “Gridding” is hiking all of the 48 peaks every month of the year, this means he doesn’t “need” to hike it ever again; not unless he wants to — which is completely understandable! Or he takes on the “Grid Over 70” or something wild like that. That said, he needs to finish this Grid first. He has many more to go but is closing in fast. Isolation is done! Congratulations! And kudos to our own Grid-finishing Redline Guide Chase Hall, who has been part of our guest’s project for a while, and leading many of these Isolation hikes. Great work!

Talk about getting the job done!
