We were honored to be contacted by an organizer with the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) seeking hiking guides for a half day. We quickly formulated a plan for a hike and put things into motion, the organizer reaching out to his members and alumni, and we on our end preparing gear and taking other necessary steps. The WWP “serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound while serving in the military on or after September 11, 2001,” and we wanted them to have an awesome day. We wanted this hike to be rewarding and one location, perfect for a half day yet still delivering a full day experience, immediately came to mind: the 2726′ Iron Mountain. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because we were just talking about this awesome mountain.
Active duty on this mission was Redline Guides Álvaro Marques and Ryan Mcguire. Here are some of their images. Photos provided by Álvaro except where marked otherwise.
His reputation at stake, true to form Álvaro provided our guests with delicacies from his home country of Portugal. The treat this time was pasteis de nata, an egg tart pastry dusted with cinnamon. They’re incrediblly rich and delicious. One guest, one member’s daughter, had three. Oh, to be young again.
Congratulations to all for the summit and beyond. To Álvaro and Ryan, great job you two. And to the Wounded Warriors, we thank you for your service and for choosing Redline Guiding where we can be of service to you.
