He was requested — as he often is — so Redline Guide Mike Maciel led our oft-returning quest on an almost-winter hike with Mt Garfield as the objective. As usual this mountain was in the working list of 48 peaks being chipped away at by this guest. What follows is a guide summary along with some photos of the day.
Walking in a Winter-Ish Wonderland
Our many-time returning guest came up for what has become a bit of a tradition for us on her journey to 48: the pre-Christmas Hike.
The conditions were a mixed-bag but generally decent considering the weather of late. One of her gifts was a pair of bushwhacks leading her to VIP snowmobile bridges (she does not particularly like water crossings). Another was her winter favorite, hot maple ginger tea. And last but not least, we got to share some trail time with one of our friendly neighborhood Gridders: Stephanie Michelle Cawley.
Not sure if it’s a precursor to coal in the stocking, but the summit didn’t give up those classic Pemi views and instead we found ourselves in a bit of a windy snowglobe as we emerged from the trees.
After our quick stop up top we worked our way back down, stopping for lunch along the way and not much else other than to take off our traction.
And just like that, she was on her way back south with #39 in the bag. Speaking of bags, she brought me a bag of gummy bears for Christmas! Our guests are amazing! —Mike M
