The title makes sense to us. A fellow with a dog came to us wanting to experience a few things: night hiking, taking on Mt Pierce while on a backpacking trip; to see the 9/11 Twin Towers memorial of lights (25 years since this tragic event), and to do all this with his best friend. After setting up camp at Naumann Tentsite, we hiked up Mt Pierce for what turned out to be a stunning sunset from the slabs. Then we waited on the (more sheltered) summit for the lights, which were bright and visible when they came on at 8 pm! There were a few other hikers up there, and we saw both headlamps along nearby trails and aircraft lights in the vicinity of the lights. Once we had spent some time admiring them we began our hike back to the tentsite, stopping in another open slab area along the way to view the stars. —Debra
