A couple of folks reached out to us with a plan to do a series of backpacking trips with a porter assist. This first installment targeted Franconia Ridge with day one covering the ridge to Liberty Spring Tentsite, then doing an out back to Flume, getting Liberty along the way before exiting via Liberty Spring Trail. What follows is a summary penned by Redline Guide Debra McCown along with some photos…
A guest working on her 48 came with a friend to bag four more peaks: Lafayette, Lincoln, Liberty, and Flume. On day one we hiked up the Greenleaf Trail to Lafayette and over Franconia Ridge to Liberty Spring Tentsite. We began the ridge in the fog, but its famous views began to open up as we descended the ridge.
On day two we hiked up from camp to tag Liberty and Flume, then returned and packed up camp to descend before the forecast rain arrived in the afternoon. We had views on both of those! That’s four more peaks in the books for this duo from New Jersey, who plan to return soon. —Debra
