Thanks to the closure of Lincoln Woods Trail — from the trailhead to the Osseo Trail junction — people are having to get creative on how to accomplish this intimidating adventure of endurance known as the “Pemi Loop.” It’s certainly not getting easier, either. Based on the hopes and needs of one guest, Redline Guide Chase Hall came up with a terrific solution. In his version the plan was to ascend Liberty Spring Trail, traverse Franconia Ridge, hop onto Garfield Ridge, climb Twin Way, take Bondcliff Trail, jump onto an open section of Lincoln Woods Trail, then take Osseo Trail up to Flume as that was needed, too, then take Flume Slide Trail or reconnect with Liberty Spring for the descent. Bases on the peaks needed, this was a smart way to go about it. Unfortunately, due to the lateness of the hour and large chunk still ahead of the team, it was decided to pull the plug and exit out to a well-placed bailout vehicle. While perhaps disappointing to our guest, we have to acknowledge what was done, instead of what wasn’t done was seriously impressive nonetheless.
