Kinsmans in Almost Winter

Looking at the photos posted below you’d be hard pressed to convince anyone these are fall scenes, but they are. Winter has seemingly landed in the mountains, but looks can be deceiving. The guest on this hike was an oft-returning Gridder — working on doing the 48 every month — and as usual in this case, Redline Guide Chase Hall took the lead. The objective on this hike was originally the Hancocks but with water levels being high after the rain we felt it was more prudent to take on something else. After a short consult, Chase and our guest decided on the Kinsmans. Here’s a brief summary of the day supplied by Chase.

What a great hike with a great guest. With a bit of back and forth texting, wanting to chip away at his December Grid, we concluded that the Kinsmans would be the best hike. We choose a route which would be nicely packed out. We changed over to spikes when we jumped on Fishing Jimmy Trail and then switched over to snowshoes when we reached Kinsman Ridge. The weather was perfect and made for a great day. —Chase
