This adventure began many moons ago but had failed time and time again to actually happen. Diverse schedules, drive times, cold weather, wind, precipitation, and other factors kept getting in the way. We had five people signed up but then someone would drop or decide that the weather wasn’t right sending us back to the start. Undeterred, eager to make it so for everyone, we tried over and over again to make this the event we envisioned, to make it happen for the five who signed up. But the winter moons kept passing us by until there were none. No more full moons and no more new moons.
We then decided let’s make it an any-moon adventure, but that didn’t stick either. We then changed it up to a sunset hike, close to I-93 to help those traveling, and to help Redline Guide Rhonda Willette as well. It looked like everyone was on board. Finally. But then it happened again. People started dropping again citing drive times, shared costs concerns, and possible rain in the forecast. At this point we gave up. We decided to just do the thing. So we did. And…
Well, it actually worked out. Sort of. Of the five who signed up sadly only one actually made it despite our best efforts but we decided on Bald Mountain in Franconia Notch as that would make it easier for all involved. The plan was to go counterclockwise making it to the summit just in time for a sunset. Well planned and well executed, and a great sunset it was. Mostly clear skies with some clouds here and there to make it interesting. Just no group. It was a good time, though. Our only regret was that this never happened how we had envisioned.
