Another training day followed by Mt Washington attempt is in the books. On day one we went over winter and mountaineering skills as is the norm for out Two-Day Winter Mt Washington Program. This was lead by Redline Guide Chase Hall (with Mike Cherim shadowing). On day two Redline Guide Debra McCown led our guest on the Lion Head Winter Route. What follows are a few photos of the both days.

Stormy Day on Mt Washington
‘I thought I was at peak fitness, but this mountain kicked my butt.’ This honest review of Mt Washington in winter is undoubtedly shared by many guests. This guest braved nearly 60mph average wind speeds and gusts over 80mph, plus icy precipitation, blowing snow, and near-whiteout conditions, to summit the Northeast’s tallest mountain in winter.
This was ‘normal’ for Mt. Washington, but not a typical day in the gym for a man from North Carolina who came to challenge himself. He said his successful winter summit of Mt Washington was the hardest thing he’s ever done — but that it was awesome. And he hopes to come back for more!
Congrats on having the grit and determination to succeed in legitimately tough conditions! And don’t worry — there are plenty more challenges in these mountains for you to enjoy. We definitely hope to see you again! —Debra
