After a day of training as part of our 2-Day Winter Mt Washington program, our guest was ready to lock horns with the Rock and Ice Pile. It was cold, and we fought the wind from treeline to the summit. It added time to the day, but we got there! After a quick photo with the summit sign, we turned and headed back down, both eager to get out of that wind as soon as possible.
Then, as we descended the snowfield, something amazing happened: The sun came out, and the wind died down quite a bit — enough to make the rest of our walk back to treeline way more enjoyable. I guess the mountain must’ve been pleased with our effort — and that was our reward.
We didn’t see anyone else above treeline all day. I suspect there was a reason for that. —Debra
