Every now and then we will get a one-on-one request from the parents of a teen — or younger. We’re glad to help, but like Scouting in the US, we have a Youth Protection Policy that mandates no one-on-one activities without the supervision of another adult. If no adult sibling, parent, etc., is available, we have to bring on a second guide. This was such the case on this hike with the leaders being Redline Guides Rhonda Willette and Timothy Wentzell (new with us). The objectives, in this case, were two summits: Mt Liberty and Mt Flume. A “Fliberty” hike!
At about 10°F, we had a cold start. Our guest was pretty stoked for this hike and wasn’t fazed by the temperature. The plan was Liberty and Flume as our guest wanted to add two peaks to his list of NH’s 48-4000 footers. It was a successful, safe, and fun day for all. —Rhonda
