What the Watcher Sees

People come to us for all sorts of classes and adventures (we’re adaptable after all). One such request we get now and then is for hiking trips up to The Watcher (a.k.a. The Old Woman of the Mountain) in Franconia Notch. Perched high up on Eagle Cliff she surveys the Notch — probably thinking she’s happy to not be stuck in traffic. Getting up to her involves hiking a “herd path” leading to a subjectively scary scramble. Between the “herd path” and the “scary scramble,” many prefer having a knowing and experienced guide to show the way. Filling this role this time was Redline Guide Mike Maciel. Our guests, two not-so-old women of the mountains, asked us to help and we were happy to oblige. The morning started rainy but Mike snapped his fingers and the rain stopped. Soon the sun came out to dry things up and they ended up with a beautiful fall day. Thanks to the cooperative weather the team succeeded and got to see what the Watcher sees.

But, Wait, There’s More — the Adventure Continues…

After all that they also decided to summit Eagle Cliff itself via a bushwhack. When they found the high point they got the honor of signing the brand new log book tucked away in the summit canister. Great job you guys! What follows are a few awesome photos.

Fantastic, Mike, great photos. And to our guests: awesome work making it happen! Thanks for choosing Redline Guiding!
