A travel company we’ve worked with for a couple of years sent another couple our way for a fairly easy half-day hike. After speaking with the couple we determined Mt Willard (a 2,850-foot 52WAV peak) would be more than enough. Not due to fitness, but more to do with simple vacation enjoyment. As it was, they did find our eroded trails a little on the wild side. That said, on our descent we ran into an AMC trail crew — working alongside Forest Service personnel — rehabbing several over-clogged water bars, doing what they can to help the situation.
It was a fun hike. The wonderful couple hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, were “sponges for information” so we shared a lot, both heading up, then coming down. Topics covered included hiking know-how, area history and geography, zoology, our trails, our mountains, our lists, trail etiquette (which they applied on the way down), trail work, and much more. And of course those stunning Crawford Notch views.
Leading this was Redline Guide Mike Cherim and the couple seemed to really love the effort and detail given. The tour was a private one so you won’t see any recognizable photos but we did capture some of the scenery.
