Chutes and Ladders

A returning guest who’s been working on his Terrifying 25 list reached out again for a companion. He’s done so on select trails, ones that he feels less than comfortable on. And we’re glad to help and really enjoy it. First of all he’s out there making it happen, residing outside of his comfort zone and not letting it stop him achieve this goals. Second of all, he’s a nice guy; a pleasure to hike with. With him on this trip was a guide he hadn’t yet gone with, that being Redline Guide Eric Hansen. This trip’s obejective was the notorious Six Husbands Trail. This conquered, the team carried on, summited Mt Jefferson, and then descended via Caps Ridge (he’d been there, done that). A perfect day with sweet success!

We had a stellar day for this hike, great weather and dry ground conditions. After spotting a car, we shuttled to Great Gulf Trailhead and began our hike. We enjoyed this long-ish approach up Great Gulf Trail, stopped at the larger water crossing to take a break and photos. After passing the other various junctions we began our trek up Six Husbands Trail, making our way up/between/over large and small boulders, some scrambles, and then a series of ladders, followed by more scrambles and some sections of slab. Our guest did great on all of these obstacles, definitely the ingredients for why this is considered a T25. Once above treeline, we skirted a talus field, reached the terminus of Six Husbands Trail, then finally attained Mt Jefferson summit. Low wind, cool temps, absolutely perfect, we soaked in the views. Fall is coming in and up high the birches are starting to pop yellow. Having done our climbing for the day, we descended Caps Ridge back to our car, total of approx. 10½ miles and 5000′ of climbing. —Eric

Excellent lead, Eric, and to our guest, well done on this. Thanks for continuing your epic with Redline Guiding!
