Just one day ago it was very hot, very humid, and the insects were loving being able to hang out with some nice sweaty hikers. Today things were a lot different. The heat: gone. The humidity: also gone. And the bugs: well, they were blown away by the strong breezes. A delightful day to hike, to be sure. And our guest was grateful. She arrived yesterday and thought the heat and humidity were a bit off-putting — and she’s from Florida! New Hampshire reminded her of being back home and this was as unwanted as it was unexpected. But that was yesterday. Today it was cool and very breezy giving our guest the conditions she sort of expected from such a northerly state. The day’s weather was “perfect,” in fact, as was the pace, the mountain, the mileage and gain, and the guide giving encouragement at just the right times. “You pushed me at all the right times,” she said, thanking her guide, Redline Guide Mike Cherim. The objective for this half-day hike was Iron Mountain in Jackson, NH. For those who don’t know it, it’s a good one. Easy to summit, and the outlook ledges to the west are stunning.
