When the title of this post arrives as feedback on a trip we led or a class we taught, we know we did something right. It doesn’t mean we over-delivered, but clearly we didn’t under-deliver. It usually means that we nailed it, offering our guests exactly what they wanted (or needed) — meaning we met their expectations. So, you may wonder, how does simply meeting expectations also exceed them? Well, the sad fact is, nowadays, doing exactly what was expected might no longer be the norm. This theory is pretty subjective and not quantifiable — though if a million people comment “heck yeah” or “amen” then, we suppose, that might be a clue.
Today Redline Guide Mike Cherim led a husband-wife pair from South Carolina on a belated birthday hike; the husband, a newly minted (dare we say) octogenarian. They wanted to revisit a particular spot on a particular mountain and we were happy to meet their expectations. The spot being the chiseled rock bench on the Ledge Trail just above the trees on Pine Mountain. The air was hot, and humid, but our little group got to enjoy some nice breezes keeping the bugs at bay allowing us focus on the fine views and terrific conversation. Now, some photos.
