A returning guest wanted to take on a couple of winter 4ks so he reached out. The plan was to take on Monroe (to settle a score, so to speak) and then hike the Tripyramids. The score with Monroe remains unsettled due to some extreme cold weather so Carter Dome was put in its place. For now, anyway. What follows are some photos from both trips. Carter Dome and the Tripyramids were led by Redline Guides Gregg Ludvigson and Hayley LaPointe, respectively.

Our returning guest is working towards his goal of hiking the NH Winter 48 and it was my pleasure to assist him in checking off two more peaks: North and Middle Tripyramid. Thankfully, some hikers had been out on Pine Bend Brook Trail since our last major storm, leaving us with only ~6″ of new snow to break out. After a quick two mile warm up, we had our work cut out for us climbing the steep sections of Pine Bend Brook Trail. With a positive attitude and a doable objective, we made our way to the summits of North and Middle Tripyramid. The weather was mild with very little wind, we even got an occasional ‘hello’ from the sun! We knew the descent was going to be a challenge, as the loose powdery snow that fell the night before made solid footing nearly impossible. Our guest did an excellent job managing the conditions and even had a smile on his face when falling back into the snow (what I call a ‘bum touch’) was inevitable. We had such a blast laughing through it all. Congratulations to our guest on completing two more peaks! —Hayley
