Skiing the Sherb

Serving the ravines on the east side of Mt Washington is the John Sherburne Ski Trail. It is the usual winter exit for skiers playing in Tuckerman and Huntington Ravines. This CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp) ski trail also goes by “The Sherbie” or just “The Sherb” to keep it real short. An even shorter word we’ve heard time and time again is “fun.” That’s what our most recent guest from Rhode Island got from it. Fun!

An avid White Mountains hiker and intermediate skier, and having partaken in a skinning demo a couple years back, she contacted us hoping to try a lap on an actual backcountry ski trail. We considered a few places to play, but ultimately Redline Guide Glenn Van Neil decided The Sherb would be a solid pick. We only hoped that it wasn’t getting skied out. Just in case, however, the night before we took out our little white box, punched in the code 4-M-O-P-O-W and pulled the lever once (one pull for every six inches of snow). That way Glenn and our guest could enjoy a super chill ski in amazing powder. We’re jelly! Now for a few photos so you can be jelly, too.

Great work, Glenn. And to our guest, thanks for choosing Redline Guiding (the ones with the magic white box).
