This father-daughter team had booked with us before, back when the little girl was only eleven. At the time they took on and beat Mts Monroe and Washington via the west side of the range. We heard all about the little girl’s big mountain ambitions during that time with us last year and we knew she’d be back. And true to their word, they reached out this year to book again, this time for a three-day adventure.
On tap this year was to partake in our winter Mt Washington program for the first two days of their time with us. This consisted of Winter Skills and Mountaineering Skills on day one, then an ascent of Mt Washington via the winter route of the Lion Head Trail on day two. The third day of their visit was unspecified but was either going to be something wild or something tame. As it turned out tame was preferred. The day was spent learning new things in the sunshine in Tuckerman Ravine and watching the skiers.
Some highlights of day three, besides watching some skiers take on impressive lines in the Ravine, as reported by Redline Guide Debra McCown, was building snow anchors, belaying, the little girl dropping her dad in the snow, checking out a helicopter flying overhead, and of course, what any twelve year old would love to do, glissade on steep snow (with a clear and safe runout, of course). Debra also added: “This kid is crushing it in all seasons.” Now for some photos of their time with us:
