A returning guest, the “Gridder” Redline Guide Chase Hall accompanies a lot, had us on board for an Owls Head hike. He needed it for December. Unfortunately the river statuses didn’t sign off on this tour and threw high water at the pair, ultimately blocking access to the mountain. We knew this could happen, but it was decided to try. Water levels started off indicating accessibility so that gave them the green light. Unfortunately the warm weather brought levels up throughout the day, as expected, but they rose slightly higher than what was comfortable. This was coupled with natural snow and ice bridges not being fully formed. Moreover, the waters would continue to rise a little more before hitting a plateau and dropping so staying back was smart. By the time they got back to the trailhead water levels were indeed back to where they were when the team started. Technically they could have waited it out, but they would have had to spend 3-4 hours just hanging out before attempting the final crossing. Here are a few photos of the day.
