The Opposite of New York

What a terrific day it was. Sunny skies, cool breezes, all-in-all just very pleasant to be out and about in it. That said, not all places are created equal. Sure, it was a nice day for the local park, and it might have been a nice day in the city, but neither of these compares to the notorious Huntington Ravine on Mt Washington. On lead for this late notice adventure were Redline Guides Debra McCown and Arlette Laan. What follows are Debra’s words and photos of the day…

But first some pre-game thoughts…

Damp slabs are okay, but the ones on Huntington are a little bit hazardous in pouring rain. If it’s pouring at 7AM tomorrow, I’m thinking about options — like let them choose Lion Head to the summit of Washy or Caps Ridge to Jefferson… still a wet scramble, but probably a little safer than Huntington. Fingers crossed for dry and sunshine tho, lol. —Debra

And we know how that turned out…

Two guests from New York City came to experience “the opposite of New York” by enjoying nature and taking on the highest mountain in the northeast, and by way of the most challenging trail: Mt. Washington via Huntington Ravine.

They enjoyed the lush green forest along the Huntington Ravine Trail, the scramble through the boulder field, and the more challenging scramble up the slabs before completing their trip to the summit.

The weather was amazing, featuring sunny skies all day and a taste of the 40+ mph winds that Mt. Washington is know for. Both had a great time, and I hope they’ll be back again! —Debra

Fine lead, Debra, and to our guests, thank you for choosing Redline Guiding as your un-city provider!
