As a rule it’s generally colder the higher you go up. But not always, which is good since on some days, the ones when it’s already cold enough, “colder” is a real bummer. On some days what hikers want is to flip that weather on its end. Instead of getting colder as we climb, let’s break all the rules and let it get warmer. We’ll call it an inversion. That’s what Redline Guide Chase Hall and a single guest were blessed with during their west wide ascent of the mountain. And they needed it… it was a cold, cold day with breezes making it feel colder. As it was, if the temperatures weren’t inverted, it would have probably been a no-go for the Mt Washington summit.
The team caught a break, however. Granted, it was still brutally cold up there, but a more doable cold. Proven, after all, in that they did it. Our guest collecting her 8th 4000-footer of out the 48. Chase noted others were on the summit enjoying the amazing albeit wacky Mt Washington weather. Even the winds cooperated coming in less than forecast. Everyone, he stated, was super friendly (we think Chase brings it out in them). People were taking turns photographing each other at the uncrowded summit. Chase report having an exceptional time!
Speaking of photos, Chase grabbed these (without freezing his fingers).
