Franconia Ridge Loop

A returning private guest wanted to hike the classic “Franconia Ridge Loop” that climbs four peaks. Two of which — Mt Lafayette (5249′) and Mt Lincoln (5089′) — count for the 4k list thanks to elevation and prominence — or a lack thereof on the part of the disqualified (Little Haystack and Truman). This loop utilizes Falling Waters Trail, part of Franconia Ridge Trail, part of Greenleaf Trail, and Old Bridal Path. It’s just over nine miles with about 4100-feet of elevation gain. It pretty much rivals hiking Mt Washington (6288′) hiked from the east side in terms of effort required. Like Mt Washington, the hike involves a significant alpine traverse where hikers are exposed to potentially dangerous mountain weather. It is an epic in the making… one of the world’s best hikes, or so they say. On lead for this was Redline Guide Ryan Mcguire.

Bridal Veil Falls on the way up the aptly-named Falling Waters Trail.

Looking ahead on the ridge. Nice!

A glimpse back.

Looking down Greenleaf Trail toward the AMC hut bearing the same name.

A look back at what they did. Awesome.

Good lead, Ryan, and good job to our guest. We hope you thought it was as awesome as they say!
