Wild Winter Wedding

Kelsey and Norbert — Married Feb. 24, 2019

The 2800′ Mt Willard is one of the 52 With A View Peaks. Due to the fairly easy hike in and its stunning ledges, it’s a popular location for mountain top weddings, but it is a mountain so sometimes the weather can be rough. Not as rough as we’d seen it on Sunday, February 24, 2019, though. That was the wedding day of Kelsey and Norbert, and three year anniversary of their prior mountain meeting. Boy, the wind sure was cranking. It wasn’t snowing as much as forecast, but the snow was probably being blown away by the body-rocking winds during this intense blizzard.

This is not some woeful tale of blizzards and bad weather — no plans were ruined on this wedding day. This is a story of love conquering all. And if the blizzard wasn’t enough to test their resolve, their photographer locked himself out of his car at the AMC’s Highland Center’s parking lot. With his gear still in it! Help was at least an hour away. Kelsey declared, “we’re doing it anyway!” Today was Kelsey and Norbert’s wedding day and nothing was going to stop that from happening. The photographer felt terrible, but things do happen. Fortunately Redline Guide and wedding officiant Mike Cherim had his all-weather point-and-shoot camera. The moments to come would be captured and thus saved forever. The captions will tell the rest.

Thank you for making it here alive.

Norbert tries to break into the photographer’s car but doesn’t succeed.

The wind is cranking through the Gateway to Crawford Notch as it often does. That said, sometimes it’s nice.

Kelsey hangs out in the Redline Guiding van while the fellows try to sort out the photographer’s dilemma.

Making their way toward the wooded — and protected — start of the trail.

Left at the first junction, then the ledges are an easy 1.6 miles up.

In a marriage, sometimes one spouse will patiently wait on the other giving love and understanding.

In a marriage sometimes there with be obstacles, but these can be overcome by working together and in that spirit.

And in a marriage sometimes the way will be free, clear, and easy.

They are almost to their mountain altar.

Swirling snow, love, and excitement are in the air. Pure joy!

Checking out the chapel.

Let the preparations begin.

“Luck is in threes,” they said. We toast with hot chocolate. Cheers!

One more, a selfie with their Justice of the Peace 🙂

There is nothing in the world more beautiful than the forest clothed to its very hollows in snow. It is the still ecstasy of nature, wherein every spire of reed, every intricacy of twig, is clad with radiance. —William Sharp, Scottish Poet, 1855-1905
