Goldilocks Hike

A perfect hike on a perfect day!

Not too much, not too little, something just right. Just like Goldilocks would like. This was the order of the day. Moreover, our guest, Kathleen from New Jersey, wanted some views, but no real exposure or scrambles. No problem, custom requests is what we’re all about. Redline Guide Jeffrey Shutak and owner Mike discussed it and decided that the Boulder Loop Trail just off the Kancamagus Highway (Rte. 112) would deliver the goods for this half day hike.

The morning started clear and perfect. (This was a good thing since we also had a Huntington Ravine trip going up at the same time after a couple of weather delays.) Jeffrey met our guest at her hotel in North Conway and shuttled her over to the trailhead in his car. It’s not a long drive and soon they arrived to an empty parking lot. Fortunately for the duo there were no hikers up there yet meaning that at least for a while they could enjoy some solitude. They made their way along this popular loop trail in a clockwise direction reaching the top of the ridge, then traversing east to the outlook spur. They made it in no time, enjoying the hike along the way. After a leisurely stop at the ridge-top outlook where they took in the stunning views and pretty fall colors, they continued along the loop descending quickly then eventually making it back to go to complete the circuit.

Here are a few photos of the tour, courtesy of Jeffrey.

Some impressive glacial erratics and talus line the trail near the start.

Not shown here, but just off trail are several impressive climbing walls.

The trail climbs, demanding of hikers in places. But worth the effort.

What an amazing day!

Our fall colors are not quite peak, and somewhat muted this year. But still… wow!

Oh what a pretty forest.

Heading back down.

Great job, Jeffrey, and well done, Kathleen. Thank you for choosing Redline Guiding!
