Making Winter Safer

The snow is a little thin in this photo, but there’s plenty for us to work with.

Day by day, group by group, person by person, we are making winter safer for a lot of hikers. We’re referring to our safety-centric wilderness education programs. Lately this refers specifically to our winter offerings like our Winter Skills and Mountaineering Skills courses. As we move further into the season we should see others begin to happen, too, like our Glacier Skills and our Backcountry Skiing Intro offerings. This is entirely up to you, of course, as we do typically run these programs on an individual basis. Scheduling is at the request of those who need our services. To schedule a date for you and your group, please use our booking form. We’d love to have you saying things like these recent course reviews for yourself sooner rather than later (and definitely not after it’s too late). Check ’em out:

“Highly Recommend”

I highly recommend Redline Guiding! Mike and Jeff are very knowledgeable and friendly which made us novice winter hikers feel very comfortable during the winter hiking and mountaineering courses. Our group had an incredible time. I fully plan on taking more classes through Redline!—Samantha E., on Facebook

“Incredible Insight”

Friends and I took the winter/mountaineering day course. Having had novice experience in winter hiking this class was an incredible insight! Mike and Jeff were very attentive and thanks to their skills and expertise I had success even in the more challenging parts of the class. I recommend this course for anyone! Whether you are new to winter hiking/mountaineering, or are just looking for a refresher! With Redline Guiding you are sure to have a great experience! Thanks again! —Breanna K., on Facebook and Yelp

“Great Fun”

Redline Guides Mike, Ken and Alvaro gave us a lot of personal attention teaching us about winter hiking and mountaineering skills. The class involved how to pack and layer for winter hiking, techniques and practice for how to use crampons and an ice axe and self-arrest techniques from various starting positions. They patiently answered questions, helped us analyze our packs and carefully walked us through crampon and ice axe techniques. Even though I had read a lot about winter hiking and talked to a lot of people about it, I learned an enormous amount in this class and it was great fun. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning about winter hiking! —Alison R., on Facebook and Trip Advisor

“Most Professionally Run”

I wholeheartedly recommend Mike and his guides. They are knowledgeable, thorough, and made learning new skills fun! Group sizes are small and everyone gets individualized attention. I took the winter hiking skills/mountaineering course. They actually make sure you have the appropriate gear for winter hiking and make suggestions for fine tuning your gear and storage of it in your pack. The outdoor portion of the class was instructional and fun! This was the best and most professionally run outdoor instructional course I have taken. Thank you! —Michelle F., on Google+

“Knowledge and Experience”

Think you know everything? Sign up for the mountaineering skills class and you will be impressed with the knowledge and experience of the Redline Guiding crew. We started with some classroom instruction and gear review and then moved outdoors for some technical skill training. I feel Mike Cherim has much much more he could have taught me or you. Just ask him. —Mike Z., on Trip Advisor

We love getting feedback like this! Now, please enjoy these recent course photos.

Self arrest training. Getting into the fallen postion without actually falling isn’t easy.

Crampon/ice axe techniques being demonstrated, fine-tuned, and practiced. Helping keep people on their feet.

Sledding face first is fun and educational.
